About the event
In spring and fall we accept up to 12 residents for a weeklong, quasi-monastic work-exchange experience. This educational offering focuses on body, mind, and soul, offering a deepening of knowledge and skill as well as a spiritually revitalizing retreat into the scenic beauty of Vermont countryside.
Throughout the week, residents will participate in vital homesteading activities (e.g., soil preparation, clearing garden beds, planting, weeding, harvesting, food preservation, land maintenance, animal husbandry, etc.) and gardening-related workshops while residing in one of our cabins. Optional readings on permaculture and complexity will be offered with opportunities for discussion. Morning meditation in the hilltop gazebo will also be offered and highly encouraged, though not required. At the end of the week we'll celebrate a job well done with a communal feast.
Residencies are tuition-free, making them a great opportunity to explore Sky Meadow and learn new skills in return for much-appreciated help tending this incredible land. No prior gardening experience is necessary, but residents should be comfortable doing active outside work and come ready to get their hands dirty. We'll work together for about 4-6 hours each day, with plenty of breaks and free time to relax, connect and explore. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us anytime at caretakers@skymeadowretreat.com.
